Port of Brisbane is delighted to bring together the port community for its Safety 1 Forum. This year’s theme, Safe by Design, will offer a practical focus on strengthening safety culture and supporting safer systems in high-risk environments. It will explore how work is planned, designed, and led – combining a strong health and safety mindset with clear decision-making and controls to support people and teams in managing risk.

We’re pleased to announce our keynote speakers:
- Matt Hall – We’ll hear from Matt Hall, Red Bull Air Race Pilot, Risk Management Expert and Motivator. Matt will build on his 2025 presentation and further explore tools, formulas and techniques for safety management. He will share effective debriefing methods to upholding integrity, accountability and safety excellence.
- Nathan Beves – Nathan will share how Patrick Terminals has redeveloped its Critical Risk Framework, with a focus on embedding critical control awareness at the frontline and improving how risk is managed in high-risk operational environments.

Nathan Beves is the Head of Health, Safety, Security and Environment at Patrick Terminals, one of Australia’s leading container terminal operators. With more than 25 years of experience in the maritime and logistics industry, he has progressed from frontline waterfront stevedoring operations to senior leadership roles.
Nathan leads Patrick’s national HSSE function, overseeing safety strategy, risk management, safety regulatory engagement and major safety improvement programs across the business. His practical operational background, combined with senior leadership experience, provides a unique perspective on managing critical risk in complex, high-consequence environments.
