PORT DRIVE UPGRADE

PBPL’s $110m Port Drive Upgrade Project was completed in 2018.

 The project, which was brought forward well ahead of capacity demand, was delivered to enhance the safety of port roads and to improve efficiencies for our customers.

SCOPE

It was the largest road project ever undertaken by PBPL and has delivered significant improvements, including:

  • duplication of 4.2 kilometres of Port Drive, with a centre-media concrete barrier for added safety 

  • construction of a new overpass (two lanes in each direction) over the Kite Street roundabout

  • connection of Tanker Street and Osprey Drive, with dedicated access for iOR

  • improvement works around the entry/exit to Port Gate via Kite Street

  • duplication of Lucinda Drive Bridge, including improving the access on the existing bridge

  • construction of a dedicated (entry/exit) access road to the Whyte Island boat ramp

  • construction of a new shared path (from the Port of Brisbane Motorway to end opposite the Caltex service station).

INNOVATIONS

  • Australia’s longest pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete bridge girders placed on the Lucinda Drive Bridge (see video below)

  • The largest placement of EME2 asphalt (55,000 tonnes) in Australia

  • Incorporation of PBPL’s Offsite Stormwater Treatment into the design

ACHIEVEMENTS

  •  ‘Excellent’ sustainability rating for 'Design' from the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia
