Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) has confirmed work is progressing on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for its proposed Channel Enhancement Project (CEP), with the draft EIS remaining on track to be lodged with the Office of the Coordinator-General in mid-2027.
Extensive technical studies across environmental, cultural, social and economic issues are currently underway to assess the potential impacts of the proposed project in accordance with the approved Terms of Reference.
CEP Project Director and Executive General Manager Sustainability and Corporate Relations, Brendan Connell said the project team remained focused on delivering a robust, evidence-based assessment.
"The Channel Enhancement Project is a proposed 25-year initiative designed to add long-term capacity to the region’s shipping network and accommodate larger vessels needed to support future trade growth," Mr Connell said.
"Significant work is underway across a range of environmental and other technical disciplines to inform the EIS, including geotechnical investigations currently being undertaken at multiple locations across the Bay.
"We are also committed to keeping communities informed and providing opportunities for people to learn more about the project, ask questions and contribute to the assessment process."
As part of that commitment, the project team will host a series of community drop-in information sessions across Caloundra, Bribie Island, Redcliffe and the Redlands during September and October 2026.
The sessions will provide community members with an opportunity to meet the project team, learn more about the proposed project, understand the EIS process and discuss the studies currently underway.
Once completed, the draft EIS will be submitted to the Office of the Coordinator-General for adequacy review before being released for public consultation. Community and stakeholder feedback will inform the preparation of the final EIS for consideration by State and Commonwealth governments.
