Friday 29 August 2025

Safety was in the spotlight at the Port of Brisbane, as well over 200 people from 40 different businesses across the port community gathered for the 16th annual Safety 1 Forum.

Hosted by Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL), this years’ theme, Advancing Safety, focused on how people are at the core of safety and how wellbeing, resilience and personal responsibility are essential to managing risks and creating safer workplaces for us all.

Keynote speaker, Matt Hall, shared his experience on taking risks and making decisions under pressure as a Red Bull Air Race Pilot, while Anton Guinea spoke about leadership and psychological safety, reminding all of us that safety is a shared responsibility.

PBPL Chief Executive Officer, Neil Stephens, said the Safety 1 Forum was an important date in the calendar for the port community to come together and focus on safety as a shared priority.

“At PBPL we’re on our own journey to advance safety – both within our business and together with our customers and partners,” Mr Stephens said.

“Our annual Safety 1 Forum is an important opportunity to continue those conversations, learn from experts and connect with our employees, customers and partners around health, safety and wellbeing issues.

“With safety, we know there is no finish line, and we look forward to continuing to work together with our customers and stakeholders to make Brisbane Australia’s safest port.

“It was wonderful to have the continued support of our event sponsors who share our commitment to the health and safety principles that drive us each and every day – Patrick Terminal, Qube, QBH, MEDLOG, Blue Water Shipping, Svitzer and ESR.”

Eight organisations also provided information on products and services related to health and safety as part of the Forum’s trade display.
