The Brisbane International Cruise Terminal (BICT) called time on its biggest ever summer season at the end of March, with 125 cruise ships calling in Brisbane between October 2023 to March 2024.
During this time, the BICT also recorded over 650,000 passenger movements through the terminal, whether that was passengers starting their holidays, arriving home or calling in Brisbane for the day.
Port of Brisbane CEO, Neil Stephens, thanked the BICT’s cruise line customers and their partners for the successful season.
“This has been our biggest ever cruise season in Brisbane and I would like to thank our cruise line customers – particularly our Foundation Partner, Carnival Australia – for their strong support in growing Brisbane’s cruise industry,” said Mr Stephens.
“Of course, like most things, the terminal’s success really comes down to the wonderful team of people on hand for every cruise ship visit who make the experience seamless for passengers.
“For every ship call, we have around 130 hardworking staff on hand at the BICT – that includes check-in staff, stevedores, Australian Border Force, Queensland BioSecurity, security staff, cleaners, café assistants, our own port team, and so many more. I’d like to truly thank everyone for their enormous efforts this summer season.
“Cruising from Brisbane this summer has also been a big economic boost, with every cruise ship call contributing almost $1 million to the Queensland economy.
“While summer is over, there is still plenty of action with almost 40 calls scheduled for Brisbane’s winter season, led by our homeporter Pacific Encounter. We’re looking forward to seeing many passengers off on their winter cruise from the BICT.”
