Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) has achieved a 6-Star Green Star rating for the Electrolux Group’s new Distribution and Experience Centre at Port West Industrial Estate Stage 2 – the highest rating available under the Green Building Council of Australia’s Design & As Built v1.3 tool.
The result represents a ‘World Leadership’ standard for sustainable design, construction and its first 6 months of operation, with the facility achieving 75 points out of a possible 100.
PBPL CEO Neil Stephens said the rating demonstrated what can be achieved when sustainability is considered from the outset.
"This is a significant milestone for the Port, Electrolux Group and the broader project team,” said Mr Stephens.
"The 6-Star rating is the culmination of years of planning, innovation and collaboration. Most importantly, it reflects a shared ambition to deliver a facility that performs to the highest operational and safety standards while achieving outstanding sustainability outcomes.
"Industrial facilities play a critical role in Australia's economy, and projects like this show they can also lead the way in advancing sustainable development outcomes while creating better places to work.”

The project achieved particularly strong results in the Green Star categories of Management, Innovation, Water, Materials and Energy.
The 21,225sqm Electrolux facility is powered by 100% renewable energy through the Port of Brisbane’s embedded energy network which includes locally installed solar and battery energy storage. The facility has incorporated low-carbon concrete as well as sustainably sourced mass timber framing for the two-storey Experience Centre.
It also benefits from real-time energy and water monitoring and advanced water recycling initiatives, while a purpose-designed waste recycling centre prevents material escape into adjacent waterways while supporting high volume operational recycling.
In delivering the project, the team achieved significant reductions in embodied carbon through material selection and use, while more than 91% of construction waste was diverted from landfill, including concrete waste being crushed on site and utilised as roadbase.
The design draws inspiration from the quintessential ‘Queenslander’ house design, with its uncomplicated yet elegant post and beam construction, whilst also being a symbiotic acknowledgement of the Scandinavian roots of the Electrolux brand, and of the ‘Place’ it has found here in its new Queensland home.
It incorporates outdoor verandahs, natural light, river views and wellbeing-focused workplace amenities that support employee health and productivity, not commonly associated with industrial developments.
The facility was delivered by PBPL in partnership with Electrolux Group, McNab, Johnstaff, Sparc*, Northrop Consulting Engineers, JLL and Theca Timber.
Officially opened in May 2025, it was the first customer facility completed within Stage 2 of the Port West Industrial Estate at Lytton.
