When Vinny joined Port of Brisbane (PBPL), he brought more than a trade background – he brought ambition, curiosity and a strong desire to keep learning. Over the years, he has combined that drive with hard work, technical expertise and a willingness to seize opportunities, leading to his recent appointment as Manager Power and Renewables.
His journey shows how individual ambition, supported by opportunity and aligned to the evolving needs of the business, can create meaningful career growth.
“Starting from a trade background, PBPL has supported my development through Electrical Engineering studies and ongoing professional growth,” Vinny says.
“The opportunities, trust and investment in my career have enabled me to progress into the role I’m in today.”
While pursuing his engineering qualifications, Vinny continued working at the Port, gaining practical experience alongside his academic studies and building the capabilities that would eventually position him as a recognised leader in the organisation's energy and power initiatives.
“Vinny is a real talent, it’s been great to see his growth, in particular over the past 12 months leading the development of Port of Brisbane’s Power Strategy and delivery of renewables initiatives,” said EGM Infrastructure Dan Burley.
“Power and renewables are key themes for PBPL moving forward under our Elevate strategy, and I look forward to seeing it continue to progress under Vinny’s guidance.”
Today, Vinny is leading one of PBPL's most strategically important focus areas.
The creation of dedicated roles in the Power and Renewables space reflects the growing importance of energy infrastructure to the Port's future and PBPL's commitment to building the capability needed to support customers, deliver strategic objectives and respond to industry-wide changes in electrification and renewable energy.
“The industry is transitioning towards electrification and renewable energy, and PBPL is strategically positioned to help enable the growth of electrical networks and sustainable energy infrastructure,” Vinny says.
“This work will help future-proof the Port, support our customers' decarbonisation objectives and contribute to the long-term economic growth of the region.”
What makes the role particularly exciting is its breadth and influence. As Manager Power and Renewables, Vinny's focus extends beyond traditional engineering and project delivery to include long-term strategic planning, customer engagement and helping shape the Port's future energy strategy.
“Rather than simply delivering projects, we're helping define the future energy landscape of the Port,” Vinny explains.
“We work closely with customers and stakeholders to unlock opportunities in electrification, renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure development, while still delivering projects that create real outcomes.”
For Vinny, the most rewarding part of the role is seeing the long-term impact of decisions and investments being made today.
“Knowing that the infrastructure and solutions we deliver now will support the Port well into the future is incredibly meaningful,” he says.
“As PBPL embarks on its Elevate strategy, it's exciting to be part of a team helping deliver the growth, innovation and sustainable outcomes that will define the Port's future.”
Looking ahead, Vinny sees significant opportunities for others to be part of this transformation.
