CELEBRATING THE WINS

Our Development Leasing Manager, Tim Piper, is at the front end of any new business at PBPL. He’s an integral part of a tight-knit and high-performing group, working with the Chief Development Officer David Keir and the Property team in the strategic positioning of all PBPL assets. Tim forms strong relationships with prospective and existing tenants, working with our customers to articulate their needs, design buildings and warehouses, draft lease proposals, and complete the lease transaction.

When we ask what he likes most about working at PBPL, Tim has a simple answer.

“I like the wins! I like being able to set goals as a team—and then achieve them. I’m not the kind of person who’s satisfied with nearly reaching a goal. Our team works hard to hit every target, and more often than not, we succeed. We go toe-to-toe with the biggest developers in Brisbane, and we celebrate every win. That gives you a huge sense of accomplishment.”

BRINGING EXPERTISE TO THE PORT

Tim boasts an extensive career in the commercial and industrial development industry, including roles at Stockland and North Lakes Business Park. Prior to joining PBPL, he was in an investment attraction role with Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, “selling Brisbane to the world,” to use Tim’s words.

When the Development Leasing Manager role became available, one of Tim’s clients recommended he connect with the team and explore the opportunity.

“I was told I needed the Port, and the Port was told they needed me. It was a perfect match. They told me they had seen what I’d achieved for Stockland and Brisbane and wanted me to deliver the same results here. I thought, ‘I can do that—I’ve done it before!’ And I hit the ground running.”

Since joining us in 2016, Tim has become a valued member of the team. He’s continuously developed an intricate understanding of the markets the Port operates in and says anyone joining the team should expect similar learning opportunities.

“Be open to learning about other areas outside your own expertise. I’ve learned about commodities, trade volumes and scheduling of shipping—things someone in property wouldn’t usually know. You have an opportunity to broaden your experience here.”

A FLEXIBLE AND SUPPORTIVE TEAM

Tim has accomplished a long list of achievements in his role but says he couldn’t have done it without the support of an incredible team. It’s something that sets PBPL apart in the industry as a fantastic place to work.

“The environment is very team-driven, which isn’t something I’ve experienced before. A lot of companies tend to be more individualistic in terms of goals, targets, and measuring success. At PBPL, it’s the complete opposite. You won’t be an island—you’ll work with the support of dozens of people backing you.”

It’s this support that has enabled Tim to achieve a rewarding amount of balance in his life. For the past few years, he’s lived on the Gold Coast and commuted to the Port when needed. In his spare time, he gives back to the community as Patrol Captain at North Burleigh Surf Lifesaving Club.

“I have achieved a lot as a Surf Lifesaver, whether it’s rescues or excellence awards. But none of that would have been possible without a workplace that gives people time to invest in other areas of their lives. PBPL encourages you to do things that make you happy because they really value you as a person.”

Working remotely has been a welcome change for Tim and his family. As well as the personal benefits of spending more time at home, Tim says he’s seen a significant increase in his productivity.

“I used to spend three hours a day on the road, and now I can use that time on the computer or phone. I couldn’t praise PBPL enough—they’ve enabled me to enjoy work-life balance. It’s a good reason why I’ll be staying at PBPL in the future.”
