Port of Brisbane shortlisted for the global seafarers’ welfare award

Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) has been named finalist in the Port of the Year category at the International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) awards.
Together with the Mission to Seafarers Brisbane Inc, PBPL was recognised for its commitment to providing world-class facilities within close proximity to the ships.
Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) CEO, Roy Cummins, said that he is pleased to be in the running for this prestigious award.
“PBPL is proud to provide a world-class centre which accommodates up to 12,500 seafarers’ every year, Mr Cummins said.
“Seafarers’ work under challenging circumstances and enormous pressure. That is why PBPL supports the global Mission to Seafarers movement through financial and other support, in order to help improve the experiences of seafarers that travel through Brisbane.
“We’re honoured to be nominated for such a prestigious industry award, and we’d like to acknowledge and thank our partners, Mission to Seafarers Brisbane, for the incredible work they do.”
President of MTS Brisbane, Captain David Ellis said PBPL is doing a great job to assist us in providing welfare services to visiting seafarers.
“The global shipping industry needs more ports like PBPL. Ports that understand that their very existence and operation relies on the seafarer, and their individual and collective welfare” Captain Ellis said.
The award ceremony will take place on the 23 April 2018, to be held at the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland.
