Port of Brisbane recognised nationally for customer centricity

The University of Sydney’s ‘Better Infrastructure Initiative’ has labelled the Port of Brisbane a 2017 National Exemplar in Customer Stewardship, one of only eight infrastructure businesses nationwide and the only port.
The eight national exemplars for 2017 are:

  • Port of Brisbane
  • Sydney Airport
  • Transport for NSW
  • Transurban
  • South East Water
  • Eastlink
  • Energy Australia
  • VicRoads

Regarding the Port of Brisbane, the report says:

Port of Brisbane is a cornerstone of the logistics and transport network of Brisbane and the wider South-East Queensland regional area. Its inclusion in Australia’s 2017 Customer Stewardship Exemplars reflects the port’s multidimensional approach that touches many aspect of the customer stewardship framework.

Of particular interest is the innovative way in which Port of Brisbane has, in close consultation with its technology partner, customers and state government stakeholders, developed and applied new technology in favour of stronger long-term customer outcomes.

Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) Chief Executive Officer Roy Cummins said the honour was reflective of the Port’s ‘customer first’ mantra.
“At the Port of Brisbane, customer centricity is one of key aspirations. It is embedded in everything we do,” Mr Cummins said.
“We greatly value the relationships we have with our customers, which is why we do everything possible to maximise supply chain efficiency and delivering more value for them.
“Our investments in major infrastructure like our $110 million Port Drive upgrade, our proposed mega cruise ship terminal, our investment in the world-first NCOS Online under keel clearance system and our ongoing investigations into data management systems are all about delivering a better experience for customers across our Port precinct.
“Being named a national exemplar with seven other major Australian infrastructure businesses is a great acknowledgement of the Port of Brisbane, and is reflective of the great lengths our staff go to make the Port of Brisbane Australia’s leading multi-cargo port.”
Mr Cummins said the Port was determined to work closely with all stakeholders to create an even better customer experience.
“Not only do we work closely with our customers, but we have strong links within our community and we work collaboratively with all levels of Government to produce the right infrastructure outcomes.
“Port Drive, the proposed cruise terminal and NCOS Online are all examples of that.
“The missing link remains a Dedicated Freight Rail Connection to the Port of Brisbane. Despite the Federal Government’s Inland Rail investment, that project stops some 38kms from the Port.
“We will continue to advocate strongly for the missing link to be completed, because we know our customers and the community more broadly would benefit from removing freights trains from the passenger network.”
