Government Responsibilities
There are many different groups of people who are interested in what happens at the port. It is a place where materials from all over the world land on our soil, including potentially harmful pests, diseases or even illegal goods. Government organisations like the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service and Australian Customs Service aim to stop the entry of illegal or harmful goods and organisms. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Water Police also enforce laws, rules and regulations at the port. It is Maritime Safety Queensland’s responsibility to look after our waterways and the people who use them. At the port, Maritime Safety Queensland controls navigation and shipping movements within the port’s limits.
