Eco-sustainability

We undertake a wide range of environmental monitoring programmes to measure and track our environmental performance, and ensure that potential environmental impacts associated with our operations are minimised.

We have programmes that monitor our stormwater, groundwater and waste, and we have strict controls in place for weeds, pests and feral animals. The port is host to a wide range of bird species, and we have also been involved in a successful mangrove transplantation programme as part of a rehabilitation project.

Sustainability is also an important part of development at the port. Our Sustainable Development Guidelines are the first of their type to be developed in the Australasian port industry. All applications to develop a new facility on port land must follow these guidelines, which focus on areas like water, stormwater, energy, waste, healthy buildings, and transport.
