The Technology
PortNet employs state-of-the-art ISM technology for its wireless network. The benefits of this spectrum are:
- It supports nationwide deployment.
- It is not sensitive to rain and other adverse weather conditions.
- It does not require license fees.
Various capacities can be offered depending on your business location.
PortNet currently has a 100Mbps backbone spanning the Brisbane port precinct. This link is directly connected through a provider partner to the main east coast Internet trunk.
PortNet utilises a point-to-multipoint fixed wireless configuration to provide high-speed Internet access to subscribers within a 20km radius of PortNet's Points of Presence (PoPs). PortNet provides a sophisticated end-to-end solution from the Internet to your business.
The Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) generally consists of a small digital transceiver located inside the building and an externally mounted antenna to provide a link to the nearest PoP. An amplifier or antenna elevation may be required to overcome line-of-sight obstacles. The CPE is then connected via standard ethernet cabling to the Local Area Network (LAN).
