Scarborough
Updates
August 2005
Pre-dredging work has commenced at the Scarborough Boat Harbour to establish a dredged-material placement area on the spit.
The work is in preparation for the maintenance dredging scheduled to commence in October, which is necessary for the continued use of the harbour by commercial vessels and recreational craft.
The work involves the creation of three 180cm-high bunds that will hold the dredged material while it is drying out. The bunds will be hydra-seeded, and within three weeks grass will begin to grow.
As part of the work, the placement area will be fenced off. Trees will be planted along the fence line as part of the parkland to be provided on the outer edge of the spit area, work on which is due to commence in February 2006.
For workplace health and safety reasons, the construction area will be closed to the public for the duration of the works and temporary fencing will be erected across the spit.
We appreciate the patience that residents and visitors have shown during the ongoing construction works at the harbour.

As part of the Port of Brisbane Corporation’s works programme associated with the replacement of the fishermen’s jetties, the spit will be used to temporarily store marina parts for a period of approximately one month.

May 2005
As part of the fishermen’s jetties work we are replacing the rock revetment wall. A land-based excavator is removing all existing rock, and where possible, the rock will be reused to build the new wall.
However, any excess rock, or rock which is not suitable for this use, will be stockpiled on the spit in the area formerly used for the placement of dredged material during the “sausage trial”. Some clean fill from the landside of the wall will also be relocated to this area.
By saving this material we will have the option of reusing the rocks and fill in the development of the dredged-material placement area or in the landscape design of the public parkland.
