Port of Brisbane wins national reporting recognition

13 June 2007

The Port of Brisbane Corporation has set the national standard for annual and sustainability reporting, selected out of over 200 contenders to win Report of the Year at the 2007 Australasian Reporting Awards.

Port of Brisbane Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Coleman, said this was just the fifth year the Corporation had entered the awards.

“In this time the Corporation has achieved four gold awards, and has been short listed for the Report of the Year three times – and this year was our year!” Mr Coleman said.

“The judging panel were impressed with the clear structure, scope and design of the report, which was compiled using wide-ranging research and discussions with customers, community stakeholders and environmental groups.

“This achievement demonstrates our commitment to not only maintaining a highly profitable business, but also to embracing the principles of sustainability in all our activities – not just reporting against them each year.”

Indicators published in the People and Environment Report (published as a separate volume to the Annual Report) were verified through an independent review by Ernst & Young.

“This verification process ensures that the information published in the report is accurate, reliable and robust, and that its conclusions are valid,” Mr Coleman said.

In the 2005/2006 report the Corporation also introduced a Global Reporting Initiative content index, as another way of benchmarking its reporting on an international scale.

“Our team has put in a tremendous effort, and I am proud that we have now reached the standard of Australia’s leading private companies, who have led the way for so many years,” Mr Coleman said.

The Port of Brisbane Corporation was also a finalist in the Corporate Governance category of the 2007 awards.

The 57th Australasian Reporting Awards were held in Melbourne on Thursday 7 June. Full details of this year’s winners are available on the ARA website.
