Port of Bundaberg ‘Statement of Proposals’ released for public exhibition

13 May 2008

The Port of Brisbane Corporation Limited has released the ‘Statement of Proposals’ for the Port of Bundaberg Land Use Plan process for public comment until Thursday 3 July 2008.

Jeff Coleman, Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Brisbane Corporation Limited, which now has management authority for the Port of Bundaberg, said that this document is an important step in the consultation process, and presents a balanced approach to the future development opportunities around the port precinct in Bundaberg.

“The Statement of Proposals policy document preserves a significant amount of land for future port and port-related industrial purposes, but also recognises the potential for ‘mixed-use’ development areas around the existing Bundaberg Marina and Burnett Heads Boat Harbour.

“We have taken into account the good work undertaken by the previous Port of Bundaberg Authority and responded proactively to the issues raised during our early consultation sessions with stakeholder representatives and the community,” Mr Coleman said.

“The Port of Brisbane Corporation is now inviting all stakeholders to review the document and make submissions about any issues or directions outlined within the ‘Statement of Proposals’ document. Details of how to make submissions are contained within the document,” he said.

Hard copies of the document will be available to view at the Burnett Heads Progress Association Hall and the Bundaberg Regional Council offices (in Bundaberg).

Anyone wishing to obtain a hard copy of the document can also email bundabergLUP@portbris.com.au to request a copy.

Mr Coleman said that ‘Information/talk-to-a-planner’ sessions are being held at the Burnett Heads Progress Association Hall during the exhibition period at the following times:

20 May 2008 (2pm-6pm)
21 May 2008 (8.30am-11.30am)
10 June 2008 (2pm-6pm)
11 June 2008 (8.30am-11.30am)

“During these times, Corporation planners will be available to meet with stakeholders one-on-one to discuss the ‘Statement of Proposals’ and answer any specific questions,” he said.

Mr Coleman also confirmed that the bridge connecting the main port area and the Burnett Heads Boat Harbour over Wallace Creek, was progressing well.

“We expect that the detailed design process will be completed in August, with tenders anticipated to be called in September,” he said.

Once completed, this bridge will provide an important local connection to the port, as well as providing alternative port access for emergency situations.
