Port of Brisbane Corporation Environmental Management System Audit Report
April 2000
Prepared by: Gutteridge, Haskins and Davey (GHD)
This report summarises the findings of an audit on PBCs Environmental Management System (EMS) performed by GHD in February 2000. At the time of the study, the Corporations EMS had been developed in accordance with the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) International Environmental Rating System (IERS), against which PBC had been accorded a IERS rating of 2. The Corporation aimed to achieve a higher IERS rating and AS\NZS ISO 14001 certification. The GHD audit was performed to identify any outstanding system issues prior to the Corporations scheduled third-party audit to the AS/NZS ISO 14001 Standard in April 2000.
The scope of the GHD audit included a review of the Corporations Integrated Management System (IMS) and associated documentation against AS/NZ ISO 14001 Standard based on the following methodology:
- Development of checklists/matrices;
- Pre-audit meeting;
- Documentation review;
- Interviews with Process Drivers;
- Interviews with Environment Systems Executive;
- Report Preparation.
All Corporation owned and operated areas and the activities undertaken on these areas were included in the scope of the report.
Results of the GHD audit indicated the majority of PBCs existing EMS, associated documentation and actions were consistent with the ISO 14001 Standard. Detailed comments on existing system elements and any additional ISO audit requirements/questions etc were detailed in the Appendices.
PBC were awarded AS/NZS ISO 14001 certification in May 2000.
