Port of Brisbane Corporation - Environmental Review :Gardens Point Mooring Facility
February 2000
Hyder Environmental
Hyder Environmental was commissioned to undertake an environmental review of the Gardens Point Mooring Facility, as part of reporting requirements to Queensland Transport and the annual Corporation auditing process. The review provides an assessment of the environmental performance of the facility in terms of legislative compliance (especially in relation to ERAs) and meeting accepted codes of environmental practice.
The Gardens Point mooring facility is operated and managed by the Port of Brisbane Corporation. An officer is assigned to the site as caretaker. The site has a capacity of 54 moorings. There is also a non-designated anchorage area upstream able to accommodate 12 vessels. Occupancy rates are between 80-100%. The methodology for the review included desktop analyses, field audits, review of legislation relevant to the facility, risk assessment and action plan development. Field audits were conducted between 8-18 November 1999.
The major finding of the review was that the facility is operating in accordance with good environmental practice. The audit identified no environmental non-compliances at the site. The report stated that PBC had adopted a pro-active role in many areas and is responsible for the excellent environmental performance of the site.
