Port increases vehicle storage capacity

The Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) has approved the design and construction of an extension to the Whimbrel Street vehicle storage area, with works now underway.

The extension will deliver an additional four hectares of vehicle storage area at the port, in preparation for the high volume of motor vehicles forecast to arrive in early 2012.

The new area will be of similar design to the existing storage facility, with the exception of the stormwater gully traps, which are not needed in this section. This is because the bitumen surface will be shaped in such a way that any rainfall on the site will flow towards the stormwater drains on Lucinda Drive.

McIlwain Civil Engineering is contracted to carry out the works, which are expected to be completed in early February 2012.

The current vehicle storage area will extend into the vacant allotment on Whimbrel Street.
