Port of Brisbane - Here for the future

Port Feathers Workshop

Why not come and study the wide variety of migratory and resident birds at the Port of Brisbane?

The port is very popular with both resident and migratory shorebirds. Every year, from September to May, when food becomes scarce during the Northern Hemisphere’s winter months, up to 15,000 migratory shorebirds from Siberia, Alaska, China and Mongolia visit the port.

The Port of Brisbane Corporation has developed a permanent 12-hectare roost site. It has been specially designed to meet the requirements of the various species. With two hides, a pedestrian walkway and a viewing platform, it is an ideal location to study Moreton Bay’s shorebirds.

The Visitors Centre Lake includes four distinct habitat types, which contain important feeding and roosting areas for many established species of birds. Groups visiting the lake can take advantage of the viewing platform and footpath to study the different bird species and habitats.

Break free of the four walls of your classroom and enhance your environment studies with a PortFeathers Workshop at no cost.

A PortFeathers Workshop can consist of all, or some, of the following in varying depths:
